6th Eckington Scouts, Ironman Challenge to fly to America

Derbyshire Scouts Ironman Challenge to fly to America

In 2019 Robert will join sixty other Derbyshire based Scouts to have the opportunity of a lifetime going to the biggest International Scout Camp in the World. The camp in America is based around Peace, Friendship and Adventure and has been created by young people from 150 countries around the world.

“I will develop personally but also I know that all of us Scouts will have a bigger impact on Scouting and beyond.”

Robert who is aged 13 has to raise a staggering £3,500 to secure his place amongst 3,600 other UK Scouts to fund the trip. This fee is for G7 countries and includes a significant contribution to ensure that young people from almost every country on the globe has the opportunity to attend this world scout event.
“I’m doing many activities within my community of Eckington in the Dronfield District to collect money including washing cars, selling cakes, collecting rags, clothes or unwanted items to sell. At the end of May I am doing a sponsored ‘Ironman’ challenge. Over 10 days I’ll be swimming 2.4miles, cycling 112 miles and running 26.22 miles.”
Robert’s Dad Steve Judge who is the local Cub Scout leader and Two Times World Champion in Para-triathlon said:
“I’m so proud of the amount of effort Robert has put into raising money within the district and also of the commitment to this amazing challenge. His journey starts here with the fundraising leading to the climax of sharing the adventurous experience with 30,000 other Scouts from around the World. I’m so excited for him”
Robert said: “There are so many awesome activities and experiences that I will have the chance to do including a zip line and rock climbing. I’m looking forward to going on the white water rafting, the speed and the size of the waves look very exciting. We will enjoy the fun and the responsibility of uniting the world’s Scouts to promote peace, mutual understanding and respect. I can’t wait!”
